What is ISM?

The Integrated Supply Management program was established in 1992 with the goal of providing a unique and relevant curriculum that would provide students with the best preparation possible for careers in supply chain management. A core concept in the development of the program was the critical role that business professionals could provide in identifying the skills and abilities that a graduate needs to be able to immediately contribute to an organization's success.

A research program was conducted to identify what was required for a "curriculum for the 21st century."  This study produced two results:  a unique undergraduate program in supply managagement that combined business and engineering courses, and an executive council that is actively involved in continuously improving the program. One result of the input from the business community is the inclusion of information technology into the curriculum. The strong relationship with the business community has also lead to a program where paid internships are a standard expectation of the program. Over 70% of students graduate with an internship, and it is not uncommon for students to have 2 or 3 internships before graduation. Internships increase the value that students gain from their coursework, and also helps them decide what area of supply management they would like to pursue upon graduation. While a thorough and relevant curriculum is a key component, there is more to the ISM program than curriculum. Faculty provide more than classroom teaching--they are mentors who provide career advice and counseling. Graduates appreciate the personal involvement and support that faculty provide and maintain their relationship with the program long after graduation.  Students also gain valuable experience by participating in the student chapter of the APICS professional organization. And because supply chains are increasingly global, study abroad experiences are highly encouraged.

There is tremendous growth in the demand for supply chain management professionals, and the Integrated Supply Management program is continuously improving to provide graduates that are extremely well prepared to fill this need.
